Biographie
Émilie est née en 1990 aux Lilas.
Elle rêve alors d'être magicienne, ou bien notaire. Finalement, après un an à l’université de la Sorbonne et une année préparatoire à l’atelier de Sèvres, elle intègre les Arts décoratifs de Paris en 2010 où elle choisit le cinéma d’animation. Entre peinture, illustration et cinéma d'animation, Émilie nous conte ses histoires avec humour et spontanéité. Après cinq ans de recherches, de calembours et de labeur, elle reçoit les félicitations du jury pour son court métrage de fin d’études Encore un gros lapin, qui se fait remarquer et produire par Les Films Sauvages.
En 2014, Émilie part étudier six mois à la Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen (HFF) dans le cadre de l’échange ERASMUS. Elle y fait la rencontre d’Anna Bergmann, réalisatrice allemande avec qui elle partage le même enthousiasme pour le cinéma d’animation. Leur entente est telle que l’été suivant, Anna lui propose de venir l’assister dans son dernier film à Chicago, puis à New York en novembre 2015.
Au cours de ces voyages, Émilie découvre l'imagination débordante du fils de la réalisatrice, Lucas, quatre ans. Elle réalise avec lui des dessins et carnets à quatre mains qui lui inspirent une série d’illustrations sur la vie frénétique américaine. Ces ateliers improvisés avec son nouveau collaborateur donnent un nouvel élan à son travail. Et loin de s’arrêter à un disciple, Émilie profite de la frénésie new-yorkaise pour monter des ateliers organisés en français et anglais destinés aux enfant de 3 à 6 ans.
Depuis, Émilie réalise des films en tant que free-lance sur Paris, dessine et organise des ateliers pour enfants (jusqu’au prochain voyage).
En février 2023, Émilie Pigeard est récompensée du César du Meilleur Film de Court Métrage d'Animation pour son film
La Vie sexuelle de mamie ( coréalisé avec Urška Djukić ).
Biography
Émilie was born in 1990 in the French town Les Lilas. She dreamed of becoming either a magician or a lawyer. In the end, after a year at the Sorbonne and a foundation year at the Atelier de Sèvres art school, she entered the prestigious Arts Décoratifs school in Paris, specializing in Animation. Alongside painting, illustration and animation, Émilie has a natural flair for storytelling, as well as a great sense of humour. After five years of research, much wordplay and some hard graft, she earned a distinction for her short graduation film Encore un gros lapin ? (or Big bunny again?) which was noticed and produced by Les Films Sauvages.
In 2014, Émilie studied at the German Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen (HFF) as part of an Erasmus exchange. There she met Anna Bergmann, a German film-maker who shared the same enthusiasm for animated movies. They got on so well that, the next summer, Anna asked her to come and help her with her latest movie in Chicago, then in New York in November 2015.
During this time, Émilie had the chance to discover the vivid imagination of Anna's four-year-old son, Lucas. The drawings and notebooks they made together formed the inspiration for a series of illustrations depicting the crazy American lifestyle. These improvised workshops with her new-found disciple gave a new direction to her work. Taking advantage of the busy New Yorkers' schedules, and on the principle of 'the more the merrier', she started organizing art workshops for kids aged 3 to 6.
Since then Émilie has been making films as a freelancer in Paris, while continuing to draw and run workshops for kids (until the next trip).
In February 2023, Émilie Pigeard received the César for best animated short film for her film Granny's Sexual Life (co-directed with Urška Djukić).
